Our Five Research Pillars

At the Asia Behaviour & Child Nutrition Lab (ABC Lab), we advance science at the intersection of behavior, nutrition, and parenting to help every child in Asia grow healthier, stronger, and happier.

Our research is built around five interconnected pillars that reflect the biological, psychological, and social foundations of early life. Together, they form a framework for turning scientific discoveries into practical, culturally sensitive solutions for families and communities across Asia.
1. Maternal Nutrition & Early Feeding
We optimize maternal and infant nutrition from pregnancy through early childhood, creating culturally tailored guidelines that promote breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and healthy growth.
2. Language, Emotion & Cognitive Development
We study how early communication and emotional intelligence shape cognition and lifelong learning — designing interventions that nurture empathy, resilience, and brain development.
3. Physical Activity, Digital Balance & Play
We encourage active play while helping families manage screen time, supporting both physical health and social-emotional growth in young children.
4. Childhood Obesity & Health
We investigate the behavioral and environmental drivers of childhood obesity across Asian populations, developing family-centered strategies that promote sustainable, healthy lifestyles.
5. Play, Brain & Learning
We explore how play influences neural growth and creativity — building evidence-based play-learning models that support holistic brain development.
At ABC Lab, we believe that science should not stay in journals — it should live in homes, classrooms, and communities, shaping everyday choices that nurture healthier generations.
